Friction is the action of two things rubbing against each other. This could be like hard cement rubbing against your knee, or rubbing your hands together (which will create heat), it's also the reason why an eraser won't fall off of a desk when the desk is getting tipped. Ice is something that doesn't have a lot of friction (it is slippery and things don't stick very well).
